Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is waxing?
Waxing is a form of semi-permanent hair removal which removes hair from the root. New hair will not grow back in the previously waxed area until 3-6 weeks. If continued on a 4-6 week regimented waxing schedule, your hair continuously grows back thinner, finer and sparser. The follicle could eventually die, no longer producing hair!
What kind of wax do you use for a brazilian?
We use a premium gentle blend of strip-less hard wax which only adheres to the hair follicle, not the skin. This wax is specially formatted for sensitive areas such as bikini, as well as Brazilian. The benefits of hard was is that it melts at a much lower temperature in comparison to soft strip wax and is much more gentle on the skin.
How long does the hair have to be?
Typically hair needs to be ¼-½ inch long or usually 2-3 weeks of growth without shaving or trimming. It is very important to have enough growth especially for your first Brazilian or bikini wax. If your hair is too short the wax will not properly adhere to the hair follicle and you will be asked to reschedule for a future date when the hair will be the appropriate length.
How often do I need to get waxed?
We typically recommend every 4 weeks. Yet some clients experience slower growth cycles while others experience faster growth cycles. Out trained waxologists will provide a recommendation for you that best suits your growth
cycle.
cycle.
Does waxing cause or prevent ingrowns?
Some people are prone to get ingrown hairs no matter what type of depilatory services they choose. Waxing is very exfoliating to the skin but people may still experience ingrown hairs. We offer a special roll-on serum that treats and prevents ingrown hairs and breakouts. We also recommend you exfoliate daily to help prevent breakouts and ingrown hairs forming under the dead skin.
Will I be perfectly smooth after my first wax?
Possible, but not likely. Some clients are baby smooth after their first wax. Most clients experience some stubble for the first 2-3 wax treatments. This is due to the fact that your hair grows in 3 different cycles and it takes time for all your hair to grow on the same growth pattern. It takes 28 days to complete the growth cycle which is why it’s so important to commit to a regimented waxing schedule of typically every 4 weeks.
Will waxing make my hair grow back thicker or coarser?
Waxing actually does the opposite! When you stay on a regimented waxing schedule you will notice after a few treatments that your hair grows back much thinner, finer and sparser.
How do I make an appointment?
You can make your appointment online by clicking the appointments tab. You must login as a "new user" (we just need to make sure that you're human). Due to increased number of no shows all appointments must be booked online.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes! We accept Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, and Discover.
Will my wax stick be double-dipped?
Double dipping a waxing stick is disgusting and unsanitary! You will NEVER see that occur at AAWT. To guarantee a safe and sanitary waxing experience, each stick is dipped into the wax one time and then disposed of immediately after use.
I'm running late. Can I still get my service done?
If you are running late, call to let us know! If we still have time to see you, we will let you know. However, if you show up late without calling, you may possibly be turned away! All of our appointments are scheduled accordingly. When you are late it causes EVERYONE behind you to be late as well. That is not the experience we want our guest to have.
What is a Brazilian Wax?
Brazilian wax removes everything from the top to the bottom, including the butt strip. Some clients opt for a strip or triangle to be left on the top and the rest bare. It is completely up to you!
How painful is waxing?
Your first wax is always the worst. Moving forward they get easier each time thereafter. Once again, it is very important to commit to a regimented waxing schedule because the hair connects to the nerve-ending around 6 weeks so it will be more painful around or after weeks. We also offer our "painless numbing cream" for an additional fee. It works wonders for those individuals that don’t want to experience any pain.
What exactly does the Male Brazilian remove?
The Male Brazilian removes all unwanted hair from the bikini area, scrotum and butt strip. You are more than welcome to leave or take as much hair as you would like.
How long does a bikini or a Brazilian wax take?
Your first bikini or Brazilian wax takes slightly longer which can range from 30-45 minutes. If you reschedule for your next treatment within 4 weeks, the service typically takes only 25-30 minutes.
Is it sanitary to wax?
We are dedicated to the highest standards and protocols of sanitation and disinfection. Also, after each and every client, the treatment table is stripped of all used towels and paper, thoroughly sanitized, then replenished with new towels and table paper.
How long does waxing last?
Typically waxing lasts 4 weeks. Some people have a slower growth cycle and may last up to 6 weeks, while others have a quick cycle lasting 3-4 weeks. When you stay on a regimented waxing schedule, you tend to last longer than 4 weeks over time.
Why wax?
Waxing is a cleaner and safer form of hair removal. Razors leave bumps, can cause bleeding or razor burn, and harbor bacteria. Laser hair removal is not effective on blonde or gray hair, is very expensive and will not effectively remove all the hair if all treatments are not completed. Waxing lasts weeks, not days like shaving. Each time you wax your follicle weakens and can eventually die, leaving your with less/no hair!
Can I be waxed if I am taking Retin A, Renova or Accutane?
These listed medication increase the rate at which your skin exfoliate. Waxing could be potentially harmful! Please call ahead to speak with our professional representatives regarding these medications. Please be aware that chemical peels, laser and micro-dermabrasion can also affect skin integrity and may be harmful when waxing. Please inform our Representative or your waxing technician if you have had any of the above treatments within the last month.
Can waxing stop hair growth?
Waxing doesn't permanently stop hair growth but can gradually reduce hair density and regrowth over time. With regular waxing, hair may appear finer and thinner.
WHY DO PEOPLE DO THREADING
Threading allows for precise shaping of eyebrows and facial hair, giving a defined and clean look.
IS THREADING BETTER THAN WAXING
The choice between threading and waxing often comes down to personal preference, pain tolerance, skin sensitivity, and the specific area being treated. Some prefer threading for facial hair due to its precision, while others may prefer waxing for larger areas or for longer-lasting results. It can also depend on individual skin reactions and the desired level of maintenance.
HOW LONG DOES THREADING RESULTS LAST
Threading typically offers results that can last anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks, depending on individual hair growth rates and the area being treated. Since threading removes hair from the root, similar to waxing, the regrowth tends to be finer and softer initially. Factors like hair growth cycles, genetics, and the area treated influence how long the results last. Eyebrows and facial hair may require more frequent threading compared to larger areas like legs or arms. Regular maintenance every few weeks is common to maintain the desired look and smoothness.
Post-Wax
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I prevent and treat ingrown hairs?
We retail a great Ingrown Hair Serum as well as our body exfoliator, that is specially formulated for sensitive skin, breakouts, and stubborn ingrown hairs.
When, why and how often should I exfoliate?
Please refrain from exfoliating post waxing for at least 24 hours, your skin needs time to heal. Exfoliation is necessary to completely unclog your pores, prevent ingrown hairs and remove dead skin leaving your skin baby smooth. Exfoliating 3-4 times a week is generally the frequency most clients require to keep smooth skin. You can purchase one of our Body Scrubs that we make in-house. When you scrub the dead skin off of your skin, you are giving your hair room to grow above the surface, instead of below, causing an ingrown hair. Consistency gives the best results when it comes to exfoliating and using our Ingrown Hair Serum.
What should I refrain from for the first 24-48 hours post-waxing?
Waxing is very exfoliating to your sin and your pores are open. Tight clothing or underwear can resist airflow and ventilation to your pores causing them to clog. Your pores need to breathe! Other things to avoid are:
• Excessive sweating
• Steam rooms/saunas
• Hot tubs/hot baths
• Swimming pools
• Sun exposure/tanning beds
• Spray tans
• Heavy lotions
• Fragranced soaps/body washes

Why should I pre-book my next appointment after my wax?
We encourage you to make waxing a lifestyle that fits within your schedule. If you implement a wax regiment based on the 3 growth cycles of your hair, the follicle weakens and may eventually die, leaving you with no hair! Anything beyond 6 weeks of growth is the “hair rooting system” starting to rebuild itself and becoming stronger which makes it more painful for the client.
Long term, will I need to always be waxed every 4 weeks?
Probably not! Initially your wax treatment should be scheduled around 3-4 weeks apart. After a few waxing treatments your hair is growing back much slower and sparser which allows many clients to schedule out 5 weeks. Over time, many clients may even need to lengthen to 6-7 weeks.
Microneedling
Frequently Asked Questions
What is microneedling?
Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) involves using fine needles to create hundreds of tiny, invisible puncture wounds in the top layer of skin using a handheld electric device. The micro-injuries you create stimulates the body's natural wound healing processes, resulting in cell turnover and increased collagen and elastin production, therefore reversing as well as preventing signs of aging.
Benefits of Microneedling
Microneedling is a simple process, but it’s one of the most effective non-surgical procedures available from dermatologists and plastic surgeons. The benefits include all the following:
- Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. Wrinkles form when your skin no longer has a sufficient amount of collagen to keep it plump. Microneedling triggers the production of new collagen which means the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles will improve over time – especially if you have microneedling done regularly.
- Repairing of visible scars. Whether you have a scar from an injury, a surgery, or even acne, microneedling can help reduce its appearance substantially.
- Reversal of sun damage and hyperpigmentation. Stimulating the growth of new collagen can even help reverse the effects of UVA/UVB damage and the hyperpigmentation that can occur as a result. Women who have pregnancy- or hormone-related melisma can also benefit from the reversing effects of microneedling.
- Shrinking pores. Last, but most certainly not least, microneedling can even shrink your pores, which can improve the overall look and texture of your skin. As collagen production increases, the skin around your pores becomes plumper, thus reducing their appearance.
